Establish a Baby Sleeping Routine :

Are you dreaming of sleeping through the nights, but your infant cannot so you sit with him? This doesn’t have to be just a dream. If your infant is ready to start sleeping through the night, typically between 6 to 8 weeks old, then teach him good sleep habits. Start your bedtime routine now. Your infant will fall asleep faster when he is more relaxed and knows what comes next. So once you start your bedtime routine, stick with it. Especially if you are not at home, your bedtime routine will comfort your infant and help settle him down. Keep in mind this is your special time away from work, chores, or any other distractions to bond with your infant.

Be sure to start your routine early enough that when you finish it, it is not late at night and you have enough time to get through it. It’s always good to keep it short and simple with the younger infants. Try giving them a bath, diapering and pajamas, and end it with rocking them in a chair with a song or story. You can start your routine in any part of the house, but it should end in your infant’s bedroom. Teaching him that his room is his comfort zone and not just where he’s banished to is very important.

There are a variety of things that can be incorporated into your infant’s routine as they get older or even now. If you start with rowdy play (bouncing in the bouncer, dancing with her, or any physical game) always follow it up with a calming and quiet activity before he goes to bed. Some infants like their baths, so let him soak in the bath, splash around, and play with his bath toys. As your infant gets older adding hand washing, brushing his teeth and such will be added.
