Uncircumcised Penis: Information and Tips:
FREEGIFTS 4Babies

Because each infant is different it is hard to tell when his foreskin will retract; weeks, months, or even years. Typically it will separate from the tip of the penis in the first few years, but some are rare and separate before birth or soon after. After the foreskin separates it can be pulled back away from the tip of the penis. This is foreskin retraction.

The majority of boys that are uncircumcised will be able to retract their foreskins by the age of 5, but some others will not until they are in their teens. As natural curiosity of their bodies starts to emerge, boys will discover how to retract their own foreskin. However, retracting the foreskin should never be forced. Let the foreskin fully separate on its own; do not try to pull it back. Severe pain, tears in the skin, and bleeding will occur from forcing the foreskin to retract before it is ready.

Skin cells are shed when the foreskin separates from the tip of the penis. These can look like pearl-like, white lumps under the foreskin and are called smegma. This is a normal occurrence and is no cause for alarm.

Cleaning: For those boys whom their foreskin separates before puberty, occasionally retracting and cleaning beneath it will be appropriate. After puberty, he should start cleaning beneath his foreskin daily, add it to his daily good hygiene, with his brushing his teeth, bathing, and grooming; (1)Gently pull the foreskin back away from the end of the penis, (2)Rinse under the foreskin with soap and water, (3)Pull the foreskin back over the penis.
